Frequently Asked Questions

1. How long does it take to receive the IDL?

Normal: 15-20 business days.

 Fast: 12-15 business days.

 Express: 8-12 business days.

2. I have a driver's permit from my country but not from the US. Can I drive in the US with an International Driver’s Permit until I get the US driver's permit?

You can only drive in the US with an International Driving Permit if you have a valid driver's permit from your country. You cannot use an IDL in the country where your original driver’s permit was issued. The International Driving Permit is intended for travelers who are legally staying in the country.

3. Is it possible to receive your service in Australia or Asia? Or in any other country?

You can apply for your IDL from any country in the world. We successfully process applications via mail with our international partners and customers.

4. Do I need to present my country's driver's permit with the I.D.L.?

Yes, you must present your original driver's permit along with the International Driver's Permit.

5. I received an email from a company stating I could avoid points, tickets, suspensions, etc., by using an IDL. Is this true?

No, an IDL does not replace or supersede a national driving permit. Those claims are completely false.

6. Is any IDL ever valid alone?

No, an IDL is never valid alone or in the country where your national driver’s permit was issued.

7. How do I renew my International Driver’s Document, and how much does it cost?

To renew your IDL, send us a copy of your expired IDL along with the renewal fee + shipping. Your IDL will be renewed within 48 hours.

8. I lost my International Driver’s Permit. What do I do?

If you lost your IDL and need a duplicate, contact customer service, provide your IDL number and name, and pay the reprint fee + shipping. Your IDL will be reprinted and mailed within 48 hours.

9. I moved and need to change my address. What should I do?

To update your address, send us a copy of your existing IDL along with the reprint fee + shipping, and the new address you want to use.

10. I am not in my home country now. What address should I put on the application form?

You should use the same address that appears on your national driver’s permit.

11. I lost my national driver’s permit. Can I apply for an International Driver’s Permit and drive with it?

No, an International Driving Permit confirms that you have a valid national driving permit. If your national permit is lost, the IDP has nothing to validate. You cannot apply for or use an IDP without a valid national driving permit.

12. My national driver’s permit will expire in 8 months. Can I still use my International Driver’s Permit?

Yes, you can use your IDP as long as your national driver’s permit is valid. Once your national permit expires, your IDP becomes invalid as well.
